Ius Commune Research School
Research School Ius Commune is a cooperation between the Faculties of Law of the universities of Leuven (Belgium), Utrecht and Maastricht, which was established in 1995. In 1998, it received recognition by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. The school holds about 70 "Seniors" and 65 doctoral students. Upon establishment of the School, Ius Commune started with the "Ius Commune and Private Law" programme, subdivided into a number of other programmes, and recently added the new programme "Ius Commune and Public Law".
Research School Ius Commune facilitates research conducted by participating researchers and offers education to the admitted doctoral students. The Ius Commune Board consists of representatives of all three faculties. The Science Director is responsible for daily management, whereas the training coordinator is responsible for the training programme. The Doctoral Students are organised in the Doctoral Student Council which has a consultative voice in matters of the training programme. Management, supervision and the secretariat are housed at the Research Institute METRO.
