BioMathematics and BioInformatics (BMI)

The BioMathematics and BioInformatics research group (BMI) conducts theoretical and applied research in Computational and Mathematical Sciences with a special focus on Biological and Medical applications. The research covers principal areas of Systems Biology and Bioinformatics, such as sensing, analyzing, modeling and predicting biological and medical phenomena.

The research group concentrates on three main research themes:

  • Complex Systems and Mathematical Systems Theory
  • Signal and image processing and analysis, with emphasis on (multi)wavelet filters
  • Statistical data analysis and data mining, with emphasis on Machine Learning

These themes are applied in cardiology, electrophysiology, the modeling of gene protein networks, and neurosciences, in close collaboration with outstanding biological and medical scientists in Europe and the USA.

A brief summary of our main working lines can be found in the links at the left.
