Knowledge Engineering

Knowledge is central to modern society. Smart chips help companies keep track of goods and manage supplies and stocks. New, hi-tech communication devices, such as mobile phones, navigation instruments and digital cameras, are greatly enhanced by intelligent software. Electronic banking and e-commerce rely heavily on real-time access to large databases and require high-security protocols for information exchange. Medical and biological engineering help medical doctors arrive quickly at accurate diagnoses, and exciting possibilities are opening up for personalised medicine.

In the Knowledge Engineering programme, you study methods to approach new challenges in these important areas. You learn to collect and organise valuable data using mathematics and intelligent computer techniques. You also use models and computers for data analysis, generating new knowledge and conclusions to solve practical problems and make decisions quickly and efficiently.

Knowledge Engineering differs from traditional computer science or mathematics programmes in that it uses Project-Centred Learning (PCL). You work on challenging, real-life projects in small groups, applying what you have learned in practise. Optional courses, internships and international exchange programme offer plenty of opportunities to tune the contents of your studies to your personal preferences and interests. Are you interested in modern scientific applications? Do you like playing around with mathematics and computers? Then Knowledge Engineering may be the right programme for you!

Knowledge Engineering is a three-year programme taught in English.
