Over het Department of Knowledge Engineering

Het Department of Knowledge Engineering (DKE) werd in 1992 opgericht als onderdeel van de Faculty of Humanities and Sciences. Tegenwoordig bestrijkt het departement het vakgebied "Kennistechnologie" in brede zin in zowel onderzoek als in onderwijs.

DKE heeft drie internationaal gerespecteerde onderzoeksgroepen die zich focussen op respectievelijk "Robots, Agenten en Interactie", "Netwerken en Strategische Optimalisatie" en "BioWiskunde en Bio-Informatica".

Onderwijsprogramma's die op het ogenblik bij DKE worden aangeboden zijn de bachelor Knowledge Engineering (Kennistechnologie), de master Artificial Intelligence en de master Operations Research. DKE heeft de toppositie behaald in de Keuzegids Hoger Onderwijs (2010). Met betrekking tot zowel onderwijs als onderzoek is DKE verbonden in verschillende nationale als internationale samenwerkingsverbanden.

Postdoc positie op het gebied van data mining and machine learning

Functiebeschrijving

The Department of Knowledge Engineering (DKE) at the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences of Maastricht University (UM), the Netherlands, invites applications for a full-time postdoc position with a focus on machine learning and data mining. The position is part of a project funded within the STW–NIHC–Philips Research Partnership Program on Healthy Lifestyle solutions. The goal of the project is to develop a hardware/software system which supports overweight people in  controlling their eating behavior. The project will be conducted in close cooperation with the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience of UM and with Philips Research.

 

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a highly stimulating academic and industrial environment. The position will be embedded in the RAI research group (Robotics, Agents and Interaction) of the DKE.

Functie-eisen

Ph.D. in Computer Science/Engineering or a closely related subject area. Demonstrated research and application excellence in data mining and machine learning. Team orientation and willingness to take a leading role in research. Ability to contribute to teaching at the bachelor and master levels. Interest in contributing to research funding acquisition. An applied or theoretical background in cognitive psychology as well as experience in signal/sensor processing would be a plus.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

We offer:

The position is offered for a four-year period. Salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and work experience, and ranges from EUR 2379 to EUR 4374 per month for a full-time job (38 hours/week).

On top of this, there is an 8% holiday and an 8.3% year-end allowance. Non-Dutch applicants could be eligible for a favorable tax treatment (30% rule).

DKE has been top-ranked in Keuzegids Hoger Onderwijs (2009). With respect to both research and teaching DKE is engaged in various national and international cooperations.

Technical Assistant Sensor-data processing

The position is part of a project funded within the STW–NIHC–Philips Research Partnership Program on Healthy Lifestyle solutions. The goal of the project is to develop a hardware/software system which supports overweight people in controlling their eating behavior. The project will be conducted in close cooperation with the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience of UM and with Philips Research. 

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a highly stimulating academic and industrial environment. The position will be embedded in the RAI research group (Robotics, Agents and Interaction) of the DKE.

Functie-eisen

Demonstrated experience in sensor data processing. Interest in interdisciplinary work together with computer scientists and psychologists.
