LO-funded courses
LO-funded courses are those which are paid for by Maastricht University’s Lokaal Overleg, or trade union. Employees with a UM contract can be eligible for funding of one course in Dutch or English. The full offer of courses whose fees are covered by the LO is as follows.
Dutch and English reimbursed by LO
If you have a regular UM employment contract or if you are a UM doctoral candidate you can qualify for reimbursement of one Dutch or one English course. This is monitored by the Local Consultative Body (LO).
When you are a non-Dutch speaker you can choose
- an English course provided you have a fairly good command of Dutch, which would be listening and speaking at level B1 high or B2 low. In an intake interview one of the Dutch trainers at the Language Centre will assess your present level
OR - a Dutch training course at beginners’ level or higher level
When you are a Dutch native speaker you can choose one of the English training programs.
The full offer of courses whose fees are covered by the LO is as follows.
Dutch courses
- Intensive Dutch course (NL13)
- Intensive Dutch course for German speakers (NL14)
- Dutch for expats (NL 15)
- Dutch for German-speaking expats (NL16)
- Dutch writing skills
English courses
- Cambridge Exam preparation course (E-FCE, E-CAE and E-CPE)
- Effective communication 1, 2, 3 (E-EC)
- IELTS Exam preparation course (E-IELTS)
If participants have to cancel the course for any kind of reason, they cannot restart the course in a next group. Both the LO and the LC don't provide a second funding of a course. The second course has to be paid by the participant or his/her department.
