Mission statement
The Language Centre was founded in 1989 with the aim of providing Maastricht University staff and students with professional support in using foreign languages. It has developed into a centre providing courses for thousands of satisfied clients from both the university and business communities each year.
We believe that adequate communication requires not just command of a language but also knowledge of customs and habits. Our clients therefore also learn communication and presentation skills in the language of their choice, and obtain insight into the various cultures.
We also believe our clients’ efforts will have best results if their language training is optimally geared to their studies or work. This is guaranteed by our content-integrated approach and tailor-made courses.
Most of our teachers are native speakers with ample experience in industry and government. Our teaching method is in line with that for which Maastricht University is renowned: problem-based learning. We expect participants to take active roles in the classroom.
Our courses are constantly evaluated and updated to ensure their quality, and we are also making increasing use of the possibilities offered by the internet and e-learning.
