The course Modeling Nature provides a global overview of the different
model systems used in the Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities. Upon
completion of the course, students are familiar with the scientific
practice of model systems and are able to use and create models in their
own academic field. The course covers phenomena such as game theory,
predator-prey dynamics, desert, network systems and chaotic dynamics.
Goals
The objectives of the course Modeling Nature are fourfold:
• to offer a broad overview of scientific models;
• to examine, study, and interact with simulation models of important
natural phenomena;
• to appreciate the power and limitations of scientific models; and
• to learn to perform a modeling study.
