Prof. Cees van der Vleuten awarded the Royal civil decoration: Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Prof. Cees van der Vleuten has received the Royal civil decoration: Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau, in honour of the societal merit of academic achievements. He was awarded the Royal civil decoration in recognition of his contribution to the innovative education concept at Maastricht University, Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences.


Cees van der Vleuten, MA, PhD, (1956) is Professor of Education and Scientific Director of the Graduate School of Health Professions Education at Maastricht University. He has contributed substantially to the development of the innovative educational concept in the broad sense of the word within Maastricht University and the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences in particular. Because of these activities, he has made an important contribution to the strong international and national ranking of Maastricht University.


He has contributed amongst other things to the development of a new curriculum of the Medical Programme (curriculum 2001). Additionally, he is Scientific Director of the Master of Health Professions Education, Chair of the Department of Educational Development and Research, Scientific Director of the Research Institute on Education, and member of the Management Team of the national research school on education (ICO). He has supervised 42 PhD students who have already brought their doctoral trajectory to completion and is currently supervising 35 PhD students.


Finally, he is acquiring a lot of capital in order to support research in this field and has received various awards and honours, such as the Spinoza professorship of the University of Amsterdam, the John P. Hubbard Award (career award), and the Richard Farrow Gold Medal (career award).
