Expectations fully met
“I have known for a long time that I want to work with offenders with mental disorders. I have always been glued to the television when news about a suspect sent to a forensic psychiatric observation clinic is presented. I hoped that after my minor clinical psychology I could work in such a clinic or hospital, but unfortunately, I wasn’t even invited for internship interviews. I still hoped for the best and graduated. When I saw that Maastricht University was planning to start the master’s in Forensic Psychology, I couldn’t be happier.
When I started after the holiday my expectations were fully met. A lot of exciting courses and lectures were given by lecturers and staff who are experienced in research and forensic practice. They got me excited about subjects I didn’t even think about before and I studied interesting topics. Problem-Based Learning and the implications of this knowledge for the real world helped me focus on how to apply my study material immediately. After one year I can say I feel very well prepared to start my clinical and research internships and I don’t worry about finding a job. In fact, I already have a part-time job at a forensic psychiatric hospital! I couldn’t be more excited and I am glad I chose this master’s to prepare myself for my future career.”
