Veni grants for Jill Lobbestael and Marisol Voncken

8 September 2010

At the end of July the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) announced some of the Veni grants for 2010. Out of the 114 accepted Veni grants in the first round, 9 were from researchers at the UM. Dr. Jill Lobbestael and Dr. Marisol Voncken at the FPN belong to this lucky group.

Marisol Voncken will investigate the influence of the hormone oxytocin on the relationship between social bonding and social anxiety. Jill Lobbestael will build on earlier research, in which she showed that physical reactions during anger outbursts are not present in patients with antisocial personality disorder (hot mind versus cold body).

In total, 982 researchers submitted a proposal. Veni researchers are at the beginning of their carrier, but have already indicated that they have an outstanding talent for scientific research. They receive a grant of 250.000 Euro with which to continue the development of their ideas over the following three years.
