René Kocken, CIO at Maastricht University, will be appointed chair of the national CIO Consultation Group

On 1 February 2012 René Kocken, CIO (Chief Information Officer) at Maastricht University, will be appointed chair of the CIO Consultation Group (CIO-beraad) of Dutch universities. He is the successor of Ineke Molenaars, one of the founders of the consultation group. In the CIO Consultation Group, CIOs from all research universities and universities of applied sciences gather to discuss common themes and to find uniform and scalability solutions together with SURF. The executive board recommended him unanimously and the SURF organisation supported this recommendation with great pleasure. In addition to being the new chair of the CIO Consultation Group, René Kocken will also act as adviser for SURF’s Platform ICT and Business Management.
The challenges in ICT will only become greater in the coming period, because of the influence of cloud computing and the increasing mobility of students and lecturers. It is essential to intensify the strategic collaboration between the institutions. This is and will remain the priority of the CIO Consultation Group.
