Prof. Herman Kingma reappointed as chair of the University Council
25 January 2012
In a closed meeting held today, the University Council of Maastricht University unanimously approved the reappointment of Professor Herman Kingma as chair of the University Council as of 1 March 2012.
Kingma is 61 years old and a professor of Clinical Vestibulology in FHML’s Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery (KNO) department. To a wider audience, he is especially known for his research on balance disturbances. Before and during the merger with the Faculty of Health Sciences, Kingma chaired the Faculty Council of the medical faculty, and as such, played an important administrative role in the discussion and decision-making process of the merger of the two faculties and the establishment of the university’s medical centre Maastricht UMC+.
In the past two years, Kingma, as chair of the University Council, was dedicated to improving the course of elections for representative bodies. In addition, Kingma established an improved (earlier) involvement of the University Council in university decision making processes. Kingma currently represents Maastricht University in a national consultative body, which is examining how employee participation can be organised differently.
The duration of Kingma's reappointment is a period of two years.
