Maastricht moot court team wins semi finals European Law Moot Court (ELMC)

Four students of the Maastricht moot court team won the semi finals of the prestigious European Law Moot Court Competition (ELMC). The semi finals took place from 18 to 20 February in Madrid. In april 2010 the students will compete against three other finalist teams. The finals will take place in the Court of Justice in Luxemburg. The Maastricht team already won the prize for best written pleading.
The four master students of the Maastricht law faculty Iona Ebben, Adrien Gabinaud, Julian Grosse and Ranish Sijben won the semi finals of the European Law Moot Court Competition that took place in Madrid from 18-20 February last. They competed against teams amongst which the European University Institute Florence, College of Europe Brugge, University of Vienna, University of Utrecht and University of Aix-en-Provence.
The team also pocketed the prize for best written pleading. It will be published in the European Law Moot Court Society’s Annual Report.
In april, four teams will competed in the finals at the European Court of Justice in Luxemburg. Next to the Maastricht team, the Lyon University team also qualified for the finals. Two remaining semi finals (Florence en New York) have not taken place yet.
Maastricht has a long tradition of successful participation in this moot court. Student teams from Maastricht or individual Maastricht students have entered the grand finals in Luxembourg nine times since 1997, winning four times as best team and another four times in individual moot court roles.
