Maaike Meijer nominated for ‘Gouden Boekenuil’

Maaike Meijer’s biography on the poet M. Vasalis is nominated for the ‘Gouden Boekenuil’, the most important literature prize in Flemish-speaking Belgium. A total of 219 books were submitted, of which the jury made a selection of 20 titles for the ‘longlist’. Meijer is competing for the prize together with thirteen other Dutch and six Belgian contestants.
At the end of February, the jury, consisting of five members and the chair (Phara de Aguirre), will announce the five nominees for the ‘shortlist’. These five will be in the running for winning the ‘Gouden Boekenuil’ (formerly known as ‘Gouden Uil’). They can also win the public prize, which will be awarded by an audience of one hundred Flemish readers.
The prize ceremony will take place on 5 May 2012 at the Handelsbeurs in Ghent. The winner will be awarded 25.000 Euro and an art piece by Philip Aguirre. The public prize consists of 2.500 Euro. Also, al five shortlist-nominees will receive 1.000 Euro.
