First Maastricht Forensic Symposium a success
14 July 2010
On Thursday 1 July, The Maastricht Forensic Institute (TMFI) organised the first Maastricht Forensic Symposium. With more than 160 participants, the symposium can be considered a complete success, which was also the outcome evident in the evaluation forms. The entire work field involved in forensic research and criminal law was represented. The participants included, amongst others, criminal lawyers, detectives, representatives from the Prosecution Counsel and students.
The symposium offered a broad range of speakers and subject expertise. Prof. Gisli Gudjonsson, associated with King’s College London, gave a keynote lecture about the meaning and usefulness of (false) confessions. Presentations from the FPN were made by Prof. Harald Merckelbach, Prof. Jan Ramaekers and Prof. Corine de Ruiter.
TMFI is considering two follow-up symposia: a forensic symposium about chemical and material analysis and their forensic applications in autumn and a second Maastricht Forensic Symposium in the summer of 2011.
