FPN leads again in German CHE Ranking

29 June 2010

The FPN has strengthened its leading position in the German CHE Ranking. In the CHE-HochschulRanking 2010, the faculty received the highest ratings (out of the 51 participating sister faculties in Germany, the Netherlands and Austria) by the polled students for the total study environment. The results are published by the weekly Die Zeit.

Dean Bernadette Jansma from the FPN was delighted with this result. 'This is really fantastic and indicates that our degree is an outstanding choice for young students who want to study psychology, including German prospective students.' In the Netherlands, the Psychology degree in Maastricht consistently finishes in the top of the Elsevier Enquête and the Keuzegids Hoger Onderwijs (Secondary Education Guide).

Good evaluations

In the CHE, with regard to the bachelor’s degree, students evaluated the expected opportunities in the work force, study possibilities abroad, opportunities to conduct research, the practical skills courses offered, library and ICT facilities, E-learning, contact with fellow students, content of the courses, the appropriateness of the course for the level of the student, supervision and evaluation. The FPN received the highest scores on three of these points and scored, in general, higher on all points than the other Dutch psychology faculties. Click for the details (in German).

Excellence Group

Research by the FPN, with regard to the number of publications per researcher, was less impressive. This finding also applies to other Dutch psychology faculties. This is surprising as last year the Dutch psychology faculties, including the FPN, were part of the 'Excellence Group' in the CHE ExcellenceRanking 2009, also based on the number of publications. The cause of the collectively lower Dutch scores is currently being investigated. The German psychology faculties from the 2009  ExcellenceRanking maintained their leading positions without exception. Apart from the number of publications, the FPN scored second place with regard to the total amount of research grants received, the number of citations and the number of graduated PhD students.
