29 June 2010
On Friday 25 June, the ‘Best Counsel of the Bachelor of Law 2010’ competition took place. The winner was Daisy Loo, whose well-prepared and skilfully executed case impressed the jury and defeated her fellow students Anne-Marie van Venrooij, Stéphanie Menten, Raymond Canisius, Joris Kersemaekers and Yvo Maes.
The jury consisted of E.V.L. Heuts, vice president of the Maastricht District Court; L.P. Bosma, vice president of Rabobank Roermond; and J. Serrarens, a lawyer at UM’s Legal Advice Clinic. Their task was to judge the arguments put forth by the six second-year bachelor’s students, selected from among 170 students at the UM Moot Court I. Daisy Loo and Raymond Canisius faced each other in the finals, where they had one last chance to demonstrate their argumentation skills. Ultimately, the jury chose in favour of Daisy Loo, who now holds the title of ‘Best Orator of the Bachelor of Law 2010’. She received a €250 gift voucher from dean Aalt-Willem Heringa.
