Ali B. and Beppie Kraft to open INKOM 2012
25 July 2012
Tuesday 21 August will see the official opening of the INKOM 2012 with performances by Ali B., Beppie Kraft and the cover band The Embers at the Markt in Maastricht. The festival is open to the general public, as is the dance event IndepenDANCE on Wednesday, the Culture Valley on Thursday and the Open Air Movie on Friday.
INKOM is the general orientation week for all new students at Maastricht University and Zuyd University, and will be held this year from 21 to 24 August. More than 2,200 first-year students will participate in the orientation week and an additional 3,000 senior students will attend the various activities and festivities. This year’s INKOM theme is ‘Creating Memories’. Anique van Oudheusden, chair of the Student Introduction Committee, explains: ‘INKOM kicks off your university years; it’s a week you’ll never forget. You’ll create your first memories of a great university experience.’
The orientation week offers new Maastricht students the opportunity to get to know each other, the city and the various student organisations. The programme includes a mix of cultural, international, sports and festive activities. Unlike previous years, this year’s registration will not be held at Randwyck but in the inner city. This means there will be no INKOM parade of music wagons this year taking students from Randwyck to the inner city. Instead, students will be led through town in a QR Game where they find their way by deciphering QR codes on their smartphones.
Over 6,000 students will attend the two big MECC parties with performances by Basto!, Erick E, Warren Fellow, De Leuk Dat Je D'r Bent Band and Shermanology.
