APMEC award for Doni Widyandana

22 February 2010

On 5 February, Doni Widyandana, a PhD student at Maastricht University and at Gadjah Mada University, received the award for best oral presentation at the 7th Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference (APMEC) in Singapore for his presentation entitled ‘A model of early clinical experience on procedural skills training for undergraduate medical students’.

Doni Widyandana is currently doing a joint PhD at Gadjah Mada University, in Indonesia, and at Maastricht University under the supervision of Prof. A.J.J.A. Scherpbier and Dr G.D. Majoor from the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), and Prof. Soenarto Sastrowijoto from Gadjah Mada University’s Faculty of Medicine (GMUFM). This joint PhD has been made possible thanks to the cooperation between the two universities.

Through MUNDO, Maastricht University and Gadjah Mada University have been working together since 2006 on the project ‘Strengthening Competence-based Clinical Education in the Faculty of Medicine using a Problem-Based Learning Strategy’. One of the aims of this project is to develop GMUFM’s medical curriculum by adding a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) component as well as skills training. For this purpose, in addition to staff training, this project also includes graduate training (master’s and PhDs) in the Netherlands.
