A.J. van Doesum appointed Professor of Value Added Tax

Ad van Doesum (37) has been appointed Professor of Value Added Tax at Maastricht University, effective 1 September 2012. He holds this chair within the Department of Tax Law at the Faculty of Law and he will be a member of the Maastricht Centre for Taxation. Prof. dr Van Doesum will, amongst other, be responsible for teaching European VAT as part of the LL.M in International & European Tax Law.

Ad van Doesum is an expert in the field of value added taxation. He studied Tax Law at Leiden University, majoring in VAT. Directly after gaining his degree in 1998, he began his career as a tax adviser in Ernst &  Young’s international VAT practice, working in their The Hague, Amsterdam and Chicago (US) offices. In 2005, he continued working as a tax adviser with PwC, where he currently leads the Indirect Taxes Legal Opinion and Litigation Practice. From April 2004 to date, he also worked as Assistant Professor at Tilburg University. In 2009, he obtained his doctoral degree on a PhD thesis about Contractual Cooperative Arrangements and VAT (title: Contractuele samenwerkingsverbanden in de btw). He was appointed deputy judge in the Rechtbank The Hague in 2012.

He has published extensively on tax issues, particularly on EU VAT, and presents regularly to international academic and practitioner audiences.
