Marc Willemsen appointed as the endowed professor for Tobacco Control Research at CAPHRI

Press release 13 April 2010

Marc Willemsen has been appointed as the endowed professor for Tobacco Control Research at Caphri. He will combine this position with his work at Stivoro, the Dutch centre of expertise for tobacco control.

Willemsen is head of the knowledge department (Stivoro’s research department), which Caphri has long been working with. Their collaboration includes the development of intervention programmes, which Stivoro then launches at a national level. At Caphri, Willemsen will focus particularly on national regulations and their impact on public health.

According to Willemsen, the Dutch government is not automatically putting all of the effective measures in place that deter smoking. “The process is slower here than in a number of other countries, and I’m wondering why. This is one of the questions that I’ll focus on.” Other areas that he would like to cover include research on how to improve the effectiveness of government measures.
