With a liberal arts degree from University College Maastricht I was sceptical about doing a “pure” law master. However, I quickly realised that the Problem-Based Learning system and the close student-tutor relationships are there to give me all the help I need to adjust to the study of law.

As a lot of my fellow students in this programme also have an international background, the tutorial discussions tend to be colourful yet insightful and informative. Still, we do not always get it right, and in such cases the tutor steps in and realigns the discussion. I feel that in this way, the tutorial discussions are always of a high standard.

Since there are only a limited number of students in every tutorial group I have found that it is easy to keep in touch with my classmates outside the tutorial and lecture meetings. This is especially useful for working in study groups before the exams as well as for my social life.

I also found that approaching my tutors and professors outside tutorials and lectures is easy as well. Thus, PBL is not only a question of teamwork between students, but also between students and professors. This makes for an interactive and lively learning experience at Maastricht’s Faculty of Law.

I know the best is yet to come, as I will graduate from a very reputable faculty of European law. In fact, I have already been offered two internships.
