Confidential Advisor Scientific Integrity

Maastricht University (UM) underscores the principles of professional scientific conduct in the “Notitie Wetenschappelijke Integriteit [Note on Scientific Integrity]” and further elaborated in the “De Nederlandse Gedragscode Wetenschapsbeoefening” and “Code of Conduct for Scientific Integrity”.

The UM has established a Regulation for Scientific Integrity at Maastricht University (only in Dutch). The Executive Board has appointed prof. mr. Th. Van Boven as Confidential Advisor on Scientific Integrity, and prof. dr. G. Kootstra as deputy Confidential Advisor. Drs. N. Harteman is secretary to the Confidential Advisor.

The regulation specifies that, with regard to the affairs of Maastricht University, in the case of reasonable grounds for supposing a breach or alleged breach of scientific conduct, everyone is entitled to bring a complaint to the attention of the Confidential Advisor of the UM.

Examples of the forms of breaches of scientific integrity may be found in the above-mentioned documents.

Mark the envelope “Personal and Confidential”

The complaint must specify your name and address, must be dated and signed, clearly describing the circumstances of the scientific conduct and specifying the reasons for the complaint.

You may also submit a complaint via the Rector Magnificus. He will forward the complaint to the Confidential Advisor.
