Overview Graduate Schools
PhD training is usually organized in local graduate schools. In most faculties there are one or more graduate schools, depending on the degree of specialization and consequently the need for specialized training in the relevant domains.
Graduate schools are often linked to inter-university research schools. Research schools cater for a larger number of PhD students, and hence may make specialized courses feasible. For some faculties the entire PhD training is taken care of by a research school.
Furthermore, in some instances the research institute takes care of PhD training, in which case research institute and graduate school coincide.
