Research

The research at Maastricht University is imbued with the same pioneering spirit upon which the university was founded. We focus on gaining insights into current issues in today’s society. And we recognise the value of bright, young researchers in contributing to the development of fresh and innovative ideas. That’s why research plays an integral role in the majority of our master’s programmes.

It’s also why we offer a number of research master’s focused solely on the training of future researchers.

Collaboration
You will work alongside our professional research staff and be trained to use the latest research technology in your chosen field. You will also be encouraged to look across traditional boundaries for answers. This means looking to other departments, disciplines, institutes, universities and international scholars to provide better insight into your own research. At Maastricht University, there is an ingrained culture of collaboration both within and between departments, and cooperation with international scholars is highly encouraged.

Entrepreneurial spirit
Our researchers have a proactive, entrepreneurial attitude when it comes to keeping up with the changes in the way university research is conducted and funded. Our high-quality research teams have attracted international attention by taking the lead in several large European research projects. However, we’re not stopping there. We are continuously working to improve the way we do research and how we acquire funding.
