Language Centre

The Maastricht University Language Centre is the place where students and staff come to improve their language skills. Each year about 5,000 people take a language course at the centre. Most of the master's programmes require an effective command of English. At the Language Centre, you can follow courses that will improve your general oral and written command of English or focus on the professional language used in your field. Non-Dutch students can take Dutch language courses, ranging in level from beginners’ to advanced.

Expanding your international profile
UM students develop a truly international profile, which is not easy to achieve elsewhere. And picking up an additional language could be part of that. Research has shown that it is frequently the third or fourth language that proves the decisive factor in getting a job or opens doors for interesting career moves. Learning a language is an investment that provides a lifelong benefit.

Courses
In addition to English and Dutch, the Language Centre also gives courses in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Turkish, Swedish, and Polish. The courses range from general courses for beginners and advanced students to more specialised courses, such as negotiating in a foreign language, business correspondence, and working with economic or legal professional jargon.
