‘Quite disappointing’

‘Acrylamide increases the risk of uterus and ovary cancer.’ That was the heading of the press release on Janneke Hogervorst’s research at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. Through her supervisor, she had arranged an interview with the NRC Handelsblad newspaper. International media had picked up the report, but otherwise remained relatively quiet. “It was quite disappointing that so few other national media carried the story. They probably thought: the NRC Handelsblad has already reported it, so it’s no longer news. Apparently, some things get old very quickly.”
