A peace-loving community of scientists

Geert Somsen, docent Wetenschapsgeschiedenis

A peace-loving community of scientists who could serve as an example to the world. This was a strongly-held ideal in the early 20th century and Geert Somsen, lecturer in scientific history at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, finds it particularly fascinating. An article about his research was published in UM’s Research Magazine – and it had quite an impact. “Yes, it did extremely well. It was picked up by the Volkskrant, which led to a big article in the science supplement. And I was invited onto the Teleac radio programme Hoe?Zo!” It is nice to talk about your subject, says Somsen, and important to let taxpayers know what their money is used for.
