Our students
Innovative, independent thinkers and doers, keen on cooperation and knowledge exchange, with an international outlook, prepared to take charge of their learning process, critical and open to criticism. These are the characteristics of students at Maastricht University – characteristics that match Problem-Based Learning in an internationally oriented environment.
International outlook
One of the Netherlands’ leading universities, it is also one of the most international, with students and teaching staff from over 70 different countries. In addition to this group of regular students, approximately 800 exchange students study at Maastricht University each year.
A choice for quality
The main reasons to opt for Maastricht University are its Problem-Based Learning model and the excellent programme quality and content. UM’s wide variety of unique bachelor’s and master’s programmes also plays a role. Maastricht’s student-friendly atmosphere, the ample offer of programmes taught in English and the resulting international study body complete the picture.
Academic challenge
UM students are not only active in their studies; they also look and reach beyond their boundaries. Maastricht University further stimulates their academic education through Studium Generale and the Student Award for students who have made an exceptional societal, social or cultural contribution during their time at university.
Looking ahead
Because of our Problem-Based Learning method, specialising at UM means you will graduate as an independent professional with sound specialist knowledge and the ability to work well in teams. Our graduates are highly appreciated on the international labour market and can be found all over the globe.
