Top 3% study for 'free'
Maastricht University (UM) encourages talent. To attract, encourage and stimulate talented students is one of the main priorities of the Strategic Programme 2007-2010. We should recognise and reward talented students. To this end, a plan was created to allow the top 3% of students to study for free. In 2011 this plan will be evaluated and a decision will be made regarding its renewal.
Scholarship
The top 3% scholarship - equal in value to the amount of tuition paid at the beginning of the academic year - has been in place since 2007/08. Recipients of the top 3% award must plan on continuing their studies the following academic year, although this does not apply to students in the final year of their master's degree (final-year master's students receive the same amount in the form of a prize). Recipients of the 3% plan are still responsible for all other study costs and living expenses.
Selection and conditions
Selection of the top 3% of students takes place within each faculty, and each has its own criteria based on a number of UM-wide conditions. To be eligible for this scholarship in this academic year (2010-2011) these UM-wide conditions have slightly changed. You can download these new UM-wide conditions as a pdf file.
