Campus Brussels
In a short time span Maastricht University (UM) has established an international reputation based on its innovative approach to learning, and its international outlook. With almost 40% of the students and 30% of the teaching staff coming from abroad, Maastricht University is a highly internationally oriented university. Additionally, many of the programmes and courses the UM has to offer are unique in the Netherlands as well as in Europe.
Within the framework of the mission statement of Maastricht University -Leading in Learning- and to emphasize the aforementioned international outlook, the UM has an active policy to move beyond the borders of Maastricht. The launch of the Campus in Brussels in 2010 has been the latest project in this field. The UM Campus Brussels constitutes a unique new Maastricht University operation.
One of the main reasons for the existence of the Campus in Brussels is the city itself. Brussels, being the capital of Europe, is a major hub where everything comes together: NGOs, international organizations, international companies, and the EU institutions. Moreover, there exists a strong connection between Maastricht and Brussels since many UM students and Alumni are involved in European affairs and work in Brussels. At the same time there is a large part of the UM staff engaged in European affairs of which many are also working and/ or living in Brussels. This makes Brussels and ideal location where individuals can meet, exchange experiences, and learn from each other.
