Universiteit Maastricht

Top 3% 2011

At the end of this year, for the fourth and final time, the Top 3 % students of Maastricht University will receive a scholarship equal to the value of the tuition fees paid for this academic year. The total amount spent on the 2011 Top 3% scholarships is €898.368. Unfortunately, due to government budget cuts, this is the last time the Top 3% award will be presented. However, in order to continue to attract and stimulate talented students, Maastricht University is thinking of a different format for the award in the future.

Top 3% 2011
A total of 459 students (288 women and 171 men, 307 bachelor’s and 152 master’s students) will receive the scholarship in the academic year 2010-2011. Thirteen of these students will be paid back the higher tuition fee of € 12.000.

Five students won the award for the fourth time and thus finished their bachelor’s and master’s programme for ‘free’. Three of these studied at the Faculty of Health Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), one at the Faculty of Law and one at the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences Department of Knowledge Engineering (DKE).

32 different nationalities were represented in this year's award, 97% from the EU and 3% from outside the EU. As with last year, most of the winners were Dutch or German, respectively 40.7% and 44.2%. 15.1% were from other nationalities, up 5% from last year.

Presentation
Unlike previous years, there will be no Top 3% award presentation for all faculties. The School of Business and Economics (SBE) and Faculty of Law (FL) students will receive their certificate by mail. Other faculties will organize a presentation for their own students.
