Universiteit Maastricht

Research

UM research is focused on international issues critical to the development of society. The university seeks to strengthen regional and national knowledge economies, elevating knowledge as a means of production equal to labour and capital. We have set up extensive partnerships with other universities, organisations and industry to apply scientific knowledge and create practical solutions to societal problems.

Knowledge valorisation

Whenever possible, UM research is valorised - translated into economic, financial or social value. The university participates in centres of excellence, both technological and social, to allow scientific discoveries to be swiftly converted into practical applications.

High-quality researchers
Maastricht University seeks talented researchers from across Europe and the world to come and work in Maastricht. But high-quality research is not just about finding the best people - it's about getting the best out of people. To this end, UM strives to create a work environment that is stimulating, innovative and dynamic.

Research portfolio
Collaborations tend to accomplish more than isolated projects. In line with Dutch government policy, each faculty at Maastricht University has a set of focused research themes. Collaborations on these themes are encouraged between faculties, universities and international organisations.
