Teachers Academy
Maastricht University’s Teachers Academy offers training and courses for teaching staff based on the premise that pressing problems in education can only be resolved through a creative approach. In this, the evidence-based approach is an important aspect: changes in education are not introduced until they are proven effective. This requires teachers to have not only a specific work method, but also an appropriate attitude.
With its Teachers Academy, the university – together with its partners from primary, secondary and higher education – aims to contribute to the professionalisation and academisation of Dutch education, in order to reduce, among other things, the impending shortage of teachers. The academy strives for a coherent offer of programmes covering all education levels. The Executive Board has also asked the academy to explore the possibilities for an international teachers academy.
The Teachers Academy is closely linked to the Top Institute for Evidence Based Education Research (TIER). TIER’s three partners – the universities of Maastricht, Amsterdam and Groningen – strive to improve the quality of Dutch education by promoting an evidence-based approach as the guiding principle in educational policy and practice.
