Alumni are of great importance to Maastricht University. Therefore we make a real effort to maintain the relationship that was born during your studies in Maastricht. The Alumni Office offers the over 38.000 graduates the following services to stay in touch and keep you up-to-date.

  • AlumniNet
    Interactive database which enables you to find fellow classmates, former tutors and other staff and keep your own contact details up-to-date. Through AlumniNet you can also register for the various activities of the Alumni Circles.
  • Alumni Circles
    Local or regional alumni circles (in the Netherlands as well as abroad). Independant of which faculty or propgramme you participated in you're invited to attend workshops, lectures or various social events.
  • AlumniNews
    Information on educational and research developments and important milestones at UM, for example through digital newsletter which you receive every 3 months.

  • Maastricht University Magazine
    'Maastricht University magazine' contains news and background information about Maastricht University education and research, alumni and alumni issues and fundraising. It is published three times a year. The content is also published on the Maastricht University website. Alumni can subscribe by sending a letter to the address mentioned below or an email to alumni@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
  • Social Media
    Become a member of our LinkedIn group or Facebook page. Use this opportunity to share news about you, raise awareness for vacancies, request for input.

Alumni email account

A special service is your lifelong email account “your.name@alumni.maastrichtuniversity.nl”.
This is an extra mail address which is linked to your student mailbox. The login procedure is exactly the same as for your student account and you are still able to access mails from your “your.name@student.maastrichtuniversity.nl” account. Your alumni mail account becomes active 60 days after your graduation date and will last eternally.
To forward your alumni mail account to another mail account (e.g. a hotmail or gmail account) you can follow this manual.

If you decide to go and study a master at Maastricht University after your bachelor study you will receive a combined “stud./alumni” account. This has no consequences for the accessibility of your mailbox. If you decide not to register for this master’s programme please cancel your application via Studielink yourself. Otherwise you risk arrears of payment which will lock your mail account. For questions concerning your alumni mail account you can always mail us via alumni@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

Career services

If you don’t know where to start looking for a job after graduating, you can turn to UM Career Services, which provides UM alumni with career planning support up to two years after graduation.

Career Services offers support including training and individual guidance as well as Quick Career Advice by a career adviser. In addition, the Career & Information Centre provides extensive career information. Surf to UM Career Services or call tel. +31 43-388 5212.

University Library

Alumni are cordially welcome to the University Library. The University Library understands the information needs of alumni from Maastricht University (UM). The world of academic information is changing rapidly and the University Library would like to share knowledge about these changes with UM graduates.

Services for alumni
The University Library offers alumni the following services:
- access to both library locations (in the inner city and in Randwyck)
- explanation on the spot by library staff about the services you can expect
- use of all hardcopy and electronic* information sources in the building, including the learning and Resource Centre
- possibility of borrowing books
- possibility of requesting books and journals from the closed stacks of the University Library and –for a fee – from other libraries (Interlibrary Loan system (ILL))
- free participation in information skills education from the University Library, such as specific training in how to search specialised databases. You can register for these courses via the University Library website.

Membership
To get access to these services we would like to ask you to become a member of the University Library. You can do this by going to the University Library desk and identifying yourself as an alumnus by logging on to Alumninet. For €36.50 per year, you will receive a UM card which is activated as a library card and – and as an extra service for alumni – contains a free credit for 100 copies/prints.

With this gesture to alumni, the University Library supports UM's alumni policy. Most electronic information sources require a physical presence in the library and, as regards licences, cannot be accessed from home or elsewhere. Advanced Courses and PhDs in European Law Brussels

Information session 16 January

Starting in February 2012, Maastricht University’s Faculty of Law will offer a series of advanced courses in European Law at the Campus in Brussels. The courses are aimed at professionals working for EU institutions, related organisations and others interested in acquiring additional knowledge of EU law. To professionals and others interested in research the faculty also offers the possibility to obtain a doctorate degree in virtually any area of comparative, European and international law.

Advanced courses EU law
The advanced courses in European Law last 7 weeks, include one three-hour session each week and are taught by senior staff members of the Faculty of law. In the first half of 2012 the following courses will be offered:

- European Law, Market Integration and Governance (start Monday, 6 February 2012, 18.30-21.30)
- Public Procurement and State Aid (start April 2012)
- European Migration Law and Citizenship (start April 2012)
- EU External Relations Law (start April 2012)

PhD programme
In addition, the Faculty of Law offers professionals and others interested in research the possibility to obtain a doctorate degree in virtually any area of comparative, European and international law, including EU institutional law, fundamental rights law, competition law, private law, migration law, food law, labour law, criminal law, corporate governance, commercial law, WTO law, intellectual property law and international human rights. The PhD programme includes courses aimed at obtaining the skills necessary to conduct legal research and can be tailored around each participant’s professional commitments.

Special hotelprices

Maastricht University works together with Maastricht Booking Service (MBS). They help you finding a hotel room in Maastricht and take care of the complete reservation. Especially for alumni fixed prices have been settled with a large number of hotels in Maastricht. MBS, as part of MECC Maastricht, has had experience with making hotel reservations in Maastricht for many years. In addition, MBS has had a solid collaboration with many hotels in Maastricht for many years as well.

Booking is very easy. For booking a hotel room you fill out the Alumni reservation form and send this to mbs@mecc.nl. You will receive an acknowledgement of the hotel booking within 24 hours.

Language training

Do you have a job in which you regularly communicate with international colleagues? Would you like to further develop your oral skills so you will be more convincing when giving presentations? How do you write good notes in a another language? Or would you like to prepare for a Cambridge examination or IELTS test so that you can include your level of English on your CV?

If so, the Language Centre is the place to be. It provides language training (individual or in-company group training) in English, Dutch, French, Spanish, German and Italian. The training ranges from beginners to advanced level and will be given by experienced teachers, most of whom have experience in the business world.

The Language Centre also provides an editing and translation service for any documents that need that professional edge. Please contact us for more information about this service.

UM Sports

UM alumni are entitled to a UM sports card for the rest of their lives, and can thus make use of the sports facilities at Maastricht University. Do you have a sports card which you wish to renew? It only takes a visit to the UM SPORT Webshop, where you can also register for a course and renew your fitness licence. It will also gain you a €2.50 discount. If you wish to apply for your first sports card, go to the desk of the Randwyck sports centre at P. Debyeplein 15.


Don’t forget to bring your UM ID number or personnel card, bank card and a passport photograph. Under professional supervision the sports centre offers modern fitness equipment in its brand new surroundings as well as a spinning room. Studium Generale

Studium Generale is a University department which offers a programme of academic and On Stage activities. You can attend lectures, debates, Science Cafés, Lecture Series on important scientific and social issues. The On Stage program presents a variety of activities such as comedy, theatre and pop music and world music. Most of the lectures and debates can be attended for free. For the On Stage activities Studium Generale charges a modest admission fee. UM alumni get a 50% discount on the Lecture Series. More information: www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/studiumgenerale
