Library house rules

General library house rules

^ top

The house rules listed below apply in principle to the entire University Library - including the Randwyck Computer Resource Centre -  unless stated differently on site.

  • Respect the study environment of others and adapt your behavior accordingly.
  • Keep noise to a minimum for your fellow students. In the open spaces and in the orange rooms (quiet computer rooms) (soft) talking is allowed. Please use the green rooms (group rooms) for discussions.
  • The audible use of mobile phones is only permitted in the designated spaces: in the stairwells, hall or Coffee-Corner (Innercity), and in the copy-rooms or at the end of the corridors (at Randwyck).
  • Eating of sandwiches, and drinking of coffee, tea, soft drinks and water is permitted in the open spaces and in the green rooms (group rooms). In the orange rooms (quiet computer rooms) and in the red rooms (silent study rooms) only capped bottles are allowed.
The use of drugs and alcoholic drinks within the library is not allowed.
Leave your study place tidy for the visitor after you. Put your rubbish in the bins provided.
  • You can bring your jacket and bag inside, but make sure the aisles are clear to avoid hazardous situations. You will find lockers and coat racks in or near the library as well as in the Computer Resource Centre Randwyck.
  • Please look after your personal belongings! The library accepts no liability for the theft of your possessions.
  • The idea is that books and journals can be found by everybody. Please put them back on the shelves when you have finished using them.
  • Instructions from the library are to be followed. Please be aware that library staff may ask you for your ID. If you ignore the house rules, you may be asked to leave the library.

Computer regulations

^ top

  • As of 1 September 2011 computer workstations in the University Library may be left unattended for a maximum period of 30 minutes. After these 30 minutes PCs and TCs will be automatically shut down and another student may start using this computer. Study materials may be set aside.
  • Report technical malfunction

Daily and monthly lockers

^ top

  • There are two kinds of lockers available in or near the library locations: daily and monthly lockers. You will recognise monthly lockers by the stickers on the locker doors.
    • Inner City Library: in the  hall near the wardrobe and on the second floor, zone D
    • Randwyck Library: near LINK and (only daily lockers) at the Computer and Resource Centre.
  • Daily lockers must be emptied at the end of each day.
Monthly lockers must be emptied every first Monday of the month. On these Mondays, the lockers will be opened and checked for remaining possessions, then made available for reuse.
  • The lockers are available for use free of charge.
  • The University Library is not liable for any loss of, damage to, or theft of, items stored in the lockers.
  • Consumption of alcohol and drugs is prohibited in the library, and storing of alcohol and drugs in the lockers is therefore also prohibited.
  • The library retains the right to randomly check the lockers for inappropriate usage, without giving prior notice.

Inner City Library garden rules

^ top

  • You may eat, drink and smoke in the garden, but drugs and alcohol are prohibited.
  • Please leave the garden clean and tidy: place your rubbish in the bins provided.
  • Please limit the noise, not only for your fellow students, but also for the neighbours.
  • If you take any books out to the garden, please return them to the bookshelves afterwards.

Reserving computer and other rooms

^ top

  • In the Inner City Library, only tutors and other Maastricht University staff can reserve rooms. However, students who can present a statement from the Disability Management Support Centre may also reserve study cells.
  • At the information desk on the first floor of the Randwyck Library, students can reserve a number of rooms: 8 study rooms on the second floor and the AV room on the third floor.
