Creating an e-reader

What should you do to create an e-reader for your students?

E-reader pages: overview and control

Two web pages are available:

Creating an e-reader for your course

In this case, please contact the University Library by email: ub-edocuments@maastrichtuniversity.nl. Please provide the following information in your email:

  • Faculty, title, number and course starting date.
  • Course coordinator(s) and, if necessary, the names of other staff members who need access to the e-reader beheerpagina.

After that the library will process your request and contact you.

Updating an e-reader

Procedure: you can make changes via the controle page.

  • Do you have a PDF file? If so, you can send it as an attachment.
  • You can find the ‘EleUM’ link in the e-reader. You can use this link to update the e-reader in EleUM.
  • The library will process your reference(s) into an e-reader, using the APA style for processing all bibliographic data.
    Examples:
    • Journal/newspaper article:
Author. (Year). Title. Journal, Volume(Issue), Pages.
    • Book section:
Author. (Year). Title. In Editor (Ed.), Book Title (ed. Edition, Vol. Volume, pp. Pages). City: Publisher.
  • The library:
    • sorts all references in alphabetical order based on author or subject/task
    • checks and completes the references
    • makes the e-reader available via the student overview for one year.

Copyright

The University Library is not responsible for the copyright of any references included in the e-reader. This responsibility lies with the faculty that requested the e-reader. To this end, Maastricht University (UM) has made a reader agreement with the Stichting PRO (the Dutch agency for copyright issues). This information is only available in Dutch.

You can check whether your references meet the requirements via the Stichting Pro. This reader agreement only covers the copying of short passages, up to 10,000 words and on the condition that no more than one third of the book is copied. If you wish to copy larger sections, you will need to request permission. You can download application forms for large sections at http://www.cedar.nl/english.
