METRO - Ius Commune Casebooks
The aim of this joint project of the faculties of law of the 'Universiteit Maastricht' and the 'Katholieke Universiteit Leuven' is to compose collections of case law and other source materials, accompanied by introductory comments, explanatory notes and comparative overviews, for each main field of the law. The Ius Commune Casebooks mainly focus on the three major European legal systems (with the English, French and German legal systems as main exponents), and on their interplay with EU and ECHR law. The project tries to uncover general principles which are already present in the living law via a case-based and therefore bottom-up method. Additional information on the project's history, the underlying research approach and on published volumes and casebooks currently in preparation is available at: www.casebooks.eu. The website also contains supplementary reading materials and original language versions of many non-English cases excerpted in the casebooks.
