Research MSc and PhD
The School’s research institute METEOR offers a five-year graduate research programme consisting of a two-year Research Master programme, with intensive coursework and a three-year PhD, leading to a doctoral dissertation.
The Research Master programmes are highly structured and stress the development of the theoretical and quantitative skills that are essential to any well-trained professional in the fields of business and economics. The programmes are designed for students who are looking for a productive and stimulating academic or scientific career in research and wish to qualify for admission to a PhD programme. After successful completing one of the Research Master programmes, the student can continue with the three-year PhD programme, provided the student has found a supervisor for his/her research. The PhD programme stresses the development of more advanced theoretical and quantitative skills and an in-depth knowledge of several specialized field areas. In many cases METEOR or a School department will provide financial support. In the PhD programme the student will be employed by the School.
All courses are taught by METEOR fellows, who are key researchers at Maastricht University. The courses and seminars offered by the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics foster an intellectually active and stimulating environment. Each week the research institute sponsors about four different seminars in several fields of interests as Econometrics, Money & Finance; Labour & Technology; Business; and Economic Theory. Top scholars from both domestic and international communities are often invited speakers at the seminars.
The graduate research programme in economics and business is under the supervision of the management team of the research school METEOR, presently composed of four graduate faculty and two representatives of the research institute. The members of the METEOR management team as of September 2009 are:
