Non degree courses
Are you interested in a single course or skills training? If so, you can become a contract student. On a contract basis you can participate in courses and take exams, and you can use the University Library and other UM facilities.
Are you a BSc or MSc student already studying at Maastricht University, but not at the School of Business and Economics? You can take individual courses and skills as a subsidiary student.
If you are a PhD candidate, you can follow courses as well. Please consult your PhD supervisor which courses fit into your training programme.
Which courses and skills can I take as a contract student, subsidiary student or PhD candidate?
Approximately 300 courses and skills training on BSc and MSc level are on offer. See the overview of courses, course descriptions (including prerequisites and levels) and coordinators. To check which courses you can take, select a course and check ‘allowed for exchange/contract/subsidiary students’.
The duration of a course is 7 weeks; for a skills training 2 weeks. Exact dates of course periods can be found in the course descriptions looked up in the academic calendar. The workload of a course is approximately 20 hours a week, including group meetings and individual study. Students are not allowed to take more than two courses in a period. The workload for a skills training is about 40 hours per week. Therefore, you are advised to take up only one skills training per skills period. If you have any questions about the content of a course or skill, please contact the block coordinator (lecturer) before applying.

Students from non-EU countries must demonstrate their proficiency in English by submitting a paper based TOEFL. Please note that the questions get tougher as the test progresses; if you make a lot of mistakes early on it might be a good idea to take an extra English course prior to coming to Maastricht to be better prepared for your classes at SBE.
