You should have a genuine interest in learning about marketing, as this is a challenging, comprehensive track. One of the key aspects of a successful strategic marketer is the ability to look at old problems in a new way. This means that you should have a flexible attitude and not be afraid to try new approaches. Marketing is also about building relationships with customers and reaching them on an emotional level. So you should have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a team.
You should ideally have previous experience of statistics and/or psychology, but this is desirable rather than essential.
