Course database

In our course database for exchange students you can find information about bachelor and master courses, for instance the lecturer(s), learning outcomes and competences, literature and prerequisites.

Courses can be divided as follows:

  • EBC1...: Bachelor course
  • EBC2...: Bachelor course
  • EBC4...: Master course
  • EBS2...: Skills training Bachelor
  • EBS4...: Skills training Master
When making your course selections, you should note that some electives will assume knowledge of topics covered in other courses. If you have not studied these pre-requisites you will not be able to register for the course. The responsibility for ensuring that any stated pre-requisite courses have been completed lies with you. Information on pre-requisites can be found in the course database

Please bear in mind that once you have registered for a course it will show up on your transcript at the end of your exchange unless you cancel this course before the course registration deadline or in the first  week of education. Also, if you did not cancel the course and decide not to take the exam, the course will still show up on your transcript with NG, which means “no grade”.

Course descriptions

Each course description in the database is built up according to the following format:

  • Title of course
  • Course code / New code
  • ECTS Credits
  • Course period
  • Level
  • Lecturer(s):
    You will notice that not all course descriptions include contact information on the course coordinator. If no contact information is provided, you can always send an e-mail to iro-incoming-sbe@maastrichtuniversity.nl (please mention your name, student number and home university) and your message will be forwarded to the appropriate person.
  • Language of instruction
  • Allowed for exchange/contract/subsidiary students
  • Learning outcomes and competences
  • Course contents
  • Literature:
    (TIP: If you are a student from an Asian university it might be a good idea to buy the books in your home country, as the prices appear to be cheaper compared to the prices in the Netherlands).
  • Prerequisites
  • Teaching Methods(s)
  • Assessment Method(s):
    The type of examination is mentioned in the course database and is also described in detail in the relevant course information on EleUM. Note that the method of examination can, however, change without prior notice. After the deadline for exam registration (not applicable for incoming exchange students) the method will NOT change anymore. The information you will find on EleUM is final. Methods of examination sometimes change because the number of participants in a course is very low, and so a coordinator might choose to do an oral examination instead of a written exam in a huge examination hall.
  • Grades in previous academic year
  • Evaluation in previous academic year
  • This course belongs to the following programmes/specializations
  • In the past this course was offered with the course code(s)
