Alumni Homecoming Day - June 20th 2009
On Saturday, June 20th, we hosted the annual Alumni Homecoming Day for graduates of the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE). The goal was to provide our alumni with exciting insights into the world of business networking. Our day began with an inspiring lecture by the networking guru Charles D.A. Ruffolo, The NetworKING! In an extremely animnated and enthusiastic way, he taught us how to “network your way to success”!
The annual Alumni Homecoming Day is a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new contacts, while enjoying an interesting programme in Maastricht!
For over 25 years, our School has been Leading in Learning. But learning is not the only ingredient for success. It is also about who you know, and more so, who knows you. Charles D.A. Ruffolo, the NetworKing, showed us that effective business networking is very important.
Lunch was an “Italian pasta buffet”, in honour of our guest speaker Mr. Ruffolo who’s family roots began in Italy.
The afternoon started out with two parallel workshops:
Art as an alternative investment, by Dr. Rachel Campbell, Assistant Professor in our Finance Department and Director of the International Institute for Art Finance Research.
The Illusions of Entrepreneurship, by Dr. ing. Wynand Bodewes, from our Maastricht Centre for Entrepreneurship.
The alumni took a “walk down memory lane” by taking a short walk from the Tongerestraat 53 (TS53) to the Bonnefanten museum, crossing the Maas via the “Hogebrug” (Hoegbrögk in Maastrichts dialect). Alumni had a guided toured of the Bonnefanten museum and we all met in IPanema for a drink, to practice our “networking” skills and to reflect on the activities of the day.
The SBE Alumni Homecoming Day is an ANNUAL event, held on a Saturday mid-June. As soon as the date is finalised for 2010, we will contact you with more details
