Alumni Homecoming Day 2010
On Saturday, 5 June, SBE welcomed our alumni back to Maastricht for the annual SBE Alumni Homecoming Day. It was a fun-filled reunion and a continuous learning experience that centered on the theme teamwork.
After traditional coffee and Limburg’s vlaai, Jos Kievits, Director Development and Alumni Relations, welcomed our alumni back to Maastricht as part of the UM family and shared the importance of keeping in touch with the university and each other. The day kicked off with an inspiring speech by Gerd-Jan Poortman, a professional sailor who competed in the Volvo Ocean Race. The audience was ‘sitting on the edge of their seats’ as Gerd-Jan shared his first-hand experience about competition sailing, facing the elements and the amazing teamwork involved.
In the afternoon, our alumni attended enrichment workshops. Meredith Bradt, colleague from the Marketing and Student Recruitment Office, discussed with the participants about the new branding of the UMSBE. Joost Kadijk (alumnus) hosted the Lego Serious Play workshop, using Lego to stimulate teambuilding. The third workshop was the And---Action! workshop hosted by Cyriel Kortleven. The lucky participants of this workshop went outside in the university garden for interactive role-playing and fun!
After a nice Italian Lunch Buffet, it was time for a team activity! The alumni were divided into teams and went on a tour of Maastricht with a GPS. The goal of this exercise was to be the first team to “find the silver ring” and reach the final destination: Café Zuid, where we ended the day with a nice, relaxing networking drink.
