Work and Social Psychology

The Work and Social Psychology department (W&SP) combines expertise in work and organisational psychology with applied social psychology. It offers a master’s programme in Work and Organisational Psychology, with a strong focus on the cognitive aspects of work. The Applied Social Psychology group contributes to the master’s programme in Health and Social Psychology.
The department’s research fits excellently with the profile of the faculty, which emphasises ‘cognitive’ and ‘experimental’ research.

The department
The combination of the sections Applied Social Psychology and Work and Organisational Psychology offers excellent opportunities for synergy, such as the applying social psychological theories (in particular knowledge about interventions for behavioural change) in organisational settings (e.g. health promotion in the workplace, work and health, stress and the role of leadership). While, on the other hand, knowledge from the domain of work and organisation psychology is important to understand how people work, and how organisations function (and develop) in order to influence these aspects. As is clear from the above, the synergy of both groups helps to contribute to Corporate Social Responsibility, and thus to the social innovation agenda of The Netherlands.
