Expert witnessing
Besides teaching and doing scientific research, several staff members of the 'Forensic Psychology' section also appear as expert witnesses in court cases. Police investigators, public prosecutors, and lawyers can contact us with questions regarding mental health status of suspects (personality assessment and psychopathology), risk assessment, vulnerable suspects and witnesses (suggestibility, false confessions), forensic neuropsychology (e.g., malingering, influence of brain damage on behaviour, etc.) recovered memories and false memories.
These activities are carried out under the flag of The Maastricht Forensic Institute (TMFI), an independent forensic institute with its main focus on forensic-technical and scientific research. See the TMFI website for further information (in Dutch).
