Registration procedure
The programme in Psychology at Maastricht University has established an intake quota of 400 students. Those students who apply before May 15 are in principal guaranteed of a place. Students who apply later than May 15 will be placed on the waiting list and accepted based on the number of places that are still open. We expect that all students who want to study Psychology in Maastricht will be accepted.
For the 2012/13 academic year an intake quota of 400 students has been established for the Bachelor of Psychology. To be eligible for one of these places, all prospective students must follow the registration and application procedure. This procedure consists of the following three steps:
Step 1 Registration via Studielink
Step 2 DUO student draw and issuing of statements of admission
Step 3 Enrolment at the university
1. Registration via Studielink
In order to be eligible for a place you must register via Studielink. Because the Bachelor in Psychology uses a lottery system, if you register and fulfil the diploma requirements (i.e. submit your grades transcript/diploma from your previous study or the delayed entry card) before 15 May 2012, you will be automatically included in the first placement round.
2. DUO student draw and issuing of statements of admission
DUO (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs, formerly known as the IB-Groep) will conduct a student draw based on the Studielink registrations. If there are less than 400 registrations, everyone will be guaranteed placement.
Proof-of-placement notifications will be sent in mid-July to those who have been admitted. The notification will be valid for four weeks. This means that you must indicate whether you wish to accept the place within four weeks of receiving the statement. You can accept your place in two easy steps: first go to Studielink and click on ‘continue registration’, then enroll at the university using your statement of admission. Note: if you do not accept your place in time, the offer will lapse.
Click for more information about the lottery procedure from the DUO website (pdf).
3. Enrolment at UM
After you have registered via Studielink and received your statement of admission, the third and final step is to enroll at the university. You will receive further information on this step in due course.
Please note:
- Since September 2011, it is no longer possible to enrol in a study programme part-way through the academic year. For programmes that start in September, you will only be able to start in September; only for programmes that also have an official February start will it be possible to start in February. Exceptions may only be made in particular cases.
- The tuition fees that different students are required to pay can vary considerably. Factors such as your nationality, place of residence, and whether this is your first or second study programme all play an important role. Please consult our click model to find out exactly how much you will need to pay.
- You need to pay your tuition fee or return the direct debit authorisation form within two weeks after receiving the email regarding payment. If we do not receive your payment and the required documents in time, you can not be properly enrolled and will not be able to start your study programme!
You can find information about paying your tuition fee here. - In the past, it was possible to postpone your graduation after having completed your studies to, for instance, do an internship or do a minor. Due to a change in Dutch law, as of 1 September 2010, you graduate automatically as soon as you obtain the necessary ECTS and meet possible additional exam requirements. As of the academic year 2011/12 it is therefore no longer possible to postpone your graduation.
Important: you can apply for one course with a numerus fixus; it is not possible to take part in several lotteries at the same time.
