Programme information
The master’s programme in Psychology offers six specialisations within Applied Cognitive Psychology and Biological Psychology. You have to choose one of these six specialisations.
Each specialisation starts with four theoretical courses combined with training in academic, research and professional skills. The second part of the year is devoted to planning and carrying out a research internship under the supervision of the academic staff. A substantial number of students do this internship abroad due to the many international research contacts of our academic staff. You will complete the master’s programme by writing a master’s thesis on your research internship.
Applied Cognitive Psychology
The idea that people constantly use knowledge stored in the brain when interpreting the world around them is important for the Cognitive Psychology specialisations. The computer plays a prominent and intriguing part in the research into the nature of cognitive processes and structures. It can be seen as an artificial brain that, if programmed correctly, can display ‘artificial intelligence’.

Biological Psychology
In the Biological Psychology specialisations, you will study the ‘roots’ of human behaviour. You will closely examine the relationship between human actions, experiences and feelings to physiological, evolutionary and developmental mechanisms. Many of these mechanisms are looked at in terms of brain functioning, and you will learn about the application of brain imaging techniques.
