The research program of the department of criminal law and criminology covers the following three areas:1. Foundations of criminal law and punishment
Programme manager: Prof. André Klip
The focus of the research in this domain is on European criminal law and international criminal law.
2. Fair trial in an European context
Programme manager: Prof. Taru Spronken
The research in this domain focuses on procedural rights in criminal proceedings in Europe, in particular from the perspective of criminal defence.
3. Criminological analysis and evaluation studies
Programme manager: Prof. Hans Nelen
The emphasis of the research in this domain is on serious forms of crime, evaluation (of policy, legislation and law enforcement) and on (causes of) miscarriages of justice.
