In numbers
Studies by the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA) and the policy research centre IVA Beleidsonderzoek en Advies have shown that graduates of the Maastricht University Faculty of Law are very satisfied with their programmes, and very much in demand on the labour market. More than half find permanent employment after graduating.
Around 90% of FL alumni find a job within one year. Of these, more than half have found permanent employment after one year, and around 80% after five years. What’s more, these jobs are often in their own specialist field. The research also shows that UM’s law alumni are very satisfied with their education.
| Job 1 year after graduation | 90% |
|---|---|
| Permanent job 1 year after graduation | 55% |
| Permanent job 5 years after graduation | 88% |
| Job in own field 1 year after graduation | 70% |
| Manager 1 year after graduation | 20% |
| Manager 10 years after graduation | 43% |
| Would choose the same programme at the same university | 81% |
Legal interns
The annual report of the Netherlands Bar Association shows that the UM law faculty yielded the highest number of legal interns (154) in 2009. This makes Maastricht the country’s largest supplier of legal interns, and again illustrates that our students are in high demand.
This is partly attributable to the faculty’s high-quality bachelor’s and master’s programmes. With the possibility of following a ‘toga minor’ in the bachelor’s and subsequently the Toga Master, the FL offers students outstanding preparation for the ‘robed’ professions. Naturally, the university’s Mock Court and the opportunity to participate in various prestigious moot courts are also to thank for this fantastic result.
